In the JETS competition, student
teams work in an open-book,
open-note, open-discussion format. The
exam consists of two parts. Part
one is a series of objective multiple-choice questions related to engineering
situations. Part two requires
students to describe and defend their solutions to open-ended subjective
questions related to problems in math, chemistry, physics, biology and computer
applications.
Student
teams consist of four to eight members at the Varsity and Junior Varsity level.
Members of the JETS team commit to researching specific problem areas and attending several practices. All participants must comply with the activity code for students. Students will miss one day of class for the competition, which is held in February at ITT’s Wheaton Campus.
In the WYSE competition, students
compete by taking take multiple choice exams in two of the following areas:
Math, Chemistry, English, Physics, Graphics, Biology and Computers.
There are opportunities for individuals or teams (6 to 14 students) to advance to sectional and state level competitions. Various prizes, free items and food are associated with each level of competition. Students must commit to attending several practices and the Saturday regional competition. The sectional competition is held on a weekday evening and the state competition involves an all-day trip to The University of Illinois. All students involved with WYSE must comply with the activity code for students.
