Course Descriptions

E120- This course is designed to improve basic language skills, especially in reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The writing program stresses the use of vocabulary, spelling, and the mechanics of writing.

E190-Developing and improving basic reading skills are the goals of this course. Instruction is individualized according to students’ abilities and needs. The four main areas include word recognition, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and practical study skills.

E220-This course is an extension of E120 English. The course emphasizes increased reading and practical writing skills. The writing program stresses the use of proper grammar and sentence structure. Included are units in paragraphing, outlining, and theme writing.

E290-This course is an extension of E190 Reading. Continued remediation is provided in the four main areas which include word recognition, vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and practical study skills.

E320-This course is an extension of E220 English and E290 Reading courses. The emphasis is on reading comprehension, vocabulary knowledge, and communication skills. Writing skills are improved through lessons pertaining to the novel, short story, or play. The individual needs and goals of each student will determine the nature of the assignments.
