The Schaumburg High School Partners Club was organized in 2002. The initial goal was to provide social activities and interaction between students with special needs in the MC Class and fellow SHS students. As the club expanded in membership, and as the MC Class got larger, a second goal of Special Olympic training and participation was added.
Currently, the club averages 20-25 members. Planning meetings are typically held every other week, with 9-10 after school activities offered during the school year. Onsite activities include seasonal arts and crafts, simple cooking projects, attending school sporting events, and training for Special Olympics. Offsite activities include events such as a visit to the pumpkin farm, shopping for Adopt-A-Family, bowling, attending a movie, and participating in the Track and Field events of Special Olympics.
Through Partners Club, friendships have been fostered. Awareness and acceptance of the MC Class has increased within the Schaumburg High School environment. Partners Club has also provided opportunities for students desiring to pursue careers in education, medicine, or social service related professions to receive valuable hands-on experience prior to high school graduation.
