“Lifesaver” (Alternate) Policy (Poms and Flags only)

Lifesavers/Alternates will be utilized during the 2008-2009 performance season.  Decisions will be based, at least in part, on attendance and performance ability.  Lifesavers may be utilized in one or all parts of the Starlite and/or Sizzler season.  Lifesavers may be chosen using a variety of methods such as audition of skills and/or memory in front of a panel of judges or coach and choreographer decision/evaluation.

Performance Schedules

The Starlites and Sizzlers are responsible for performing at all home football games, the Homecoming Pep Rally, numerous home basketball games (to be determined at a later date), pep assemblies, the Septemberfest Parade, Collegiate Band Days, and Competitions as detailed below.  Members are expected to be present for the duration of the events.

The Orchesis Team members are expected to perform at the following events: Fall and Winter Pep and Promote Assemblies, Homecoming Spirit Rally, the Barrington HS Dance Showcase, the Annual Dance Show, and Arts Alive week.  Members are expected to stay with the team for the duration of all events.  Choreography auditions for the annual Dance Show are in November.  After dance selections are made, members sign up for specific rehearsal days/times.  Dance Show rehearsals begin upon return from Winter Break. The Dance Show is a 2 hour long performance staging approximately 25 original dances.

Competition Season (Poms and Flags only)

A major part of the Starlite and Sizzler year is competition.  The dates of competition have not yet been released, but will be posted at www.teamdanceillinois.org when the dates are confirmed.  The Starlites attend three regional contests and State.  Only varsity teams are eligible to compete at State, which is held during the last weekend of February or the first weekend of March.  Please refrain from making any travel plans during the months of January-March.  The competition season will be completed by the time of Spring Break, should you choose to make travel plans for that week.

The Sizzler Pom Squad and the Starlites Flag Squad compete as part of an organization called “Team Dance Illinois,” otherwise known as TDI- The State’s Premiere Flag and Dance Alliance.  There are a variety of categories available to participants, the SHS teams performing in the categories as described below:

l       Sizzlers Pom Squad

         Kick

         Pom

l       JV and Varsity Starlites Flag Squad (will not compete against one another)

         3-minute Tall Flag

         3-minute Lyrical Tall Flag

Competition is an exciting time of year.  It is an opportunity to build lasting friendships and lifelong memories.  Keeping this in mind, it is important to note that students cannot leave the competition with family members.  In addition, district policy states that members who ride the bus with the team must also leave with the team.
