What the students think about Cool Beans...

Cool Beans is a bakery ran by the students of SHS. It’s a two period class.  In first period we bake our goods that we sell on Friday morning, or on Late Start Tuesdays. Second period is a business class, in which we discuss management, marketing strategies, and accounting.  The great thing about this course is that you actually get to “run your own business” and you don’t just read and learn everything out of a text book. This class may sound like a breeze but it requires a lot of dedication, such as our after school bakeries which can go until 4:00 p.m. or during our free periods.  Although, being here at 6:00 a.m. to run the Friday bakery is our favorite thing to do!  We truly run the bakery!

-Karishma, Class of '10

Cool Beans is a huge commitment.   It's hands-on and you get to run your own business.  You have to be very dedicated.  If you plan on entering the culinary field, this is a good class to take!  For me, this and Chemistry of Foods helped me prepare for my future.

-Jasmine, Class of '08

It was cool planning your own week to manage and market the bakery.  Not only managing, but every job had something good about it.  Overall the experience was rewarding.

-Jen, Class of '08

Teachers acknowledge you because they recognize you from Cool Beans.  Now I feel like I'm famous!  The class was very interesting and you see a whole different outlook on entrepreneurship.  You see that it is tough to run a bakery, but you learn a lot. (And you get a discount for life!)

-Kristina, Class of '08
