Name: Kenneth Turner

Graduated From...

High School: Glenbard West
College: Valparaiso University/ Degree: BA in Bio and Minor in Chem
College: DePauw University/ Degree: MAT in Science
Special Comments: National Certified Teacher 2005

By God's grace, I hold the highest certification available to teachers, I am considered "Highly Qualified" to teach every Science subject by the Illinois State Board of Education, and I am qualified and certified to teach Secondary Education Science in all 50 states! I have led workshops to teach teachers from San Francisco to Boston for the NSTA (National Science Teachers Association), Cray Academy, and Department of Defense. I use all my experience and abilities to better educate the children of this community- I stretch and toil so that my students might have new and larger horizons. Other organizations have seen fit to support the many innovations I have begun - as I have led or been a part of more than $100,000 of grants awarded to SHS!

I am proud to make these efforts and contributions on behalf of Township High School District 211. I suppose some people may take the excellence of this District for granted, but I do not. The excellence of this District has always required the very best that each of us - students, parents, community, administration, and teachers - has to give. This district has always fought for and provided that which is best for the children of its community- they are our greatest responsibility!

(Yes,  I am worth the money...)

Awards: GTE Fellow, Toyota Tapestry Award, Top 100 Teachers of Science, Math, Technology, Those Who Excel, (three times, including 2007)  others....

Published: Science Teacher (most recently in 2006), Journal of Chemical Education, and some EXCITING publications with Materials World Modules of Northwestern University

On a personal note...

I have been teaching for over 20 years!  Seems amazing to me... I keep finding more stuff to learn!  My family and I live in the small town of Warren, located in the Northwest corner of Illinois.  It is true, my house is much closer to Dubuque than to Schaumburg.  It is too bad my dream house and my dream job are so far away from each other, but there is really nothing impossible about the commute.  I consider myself blessed indeed to have found the job and house that I like.
