Course Requirements and Expectations
STEPS TO SUCCESS
1. DO be in class everyday. If you must be absent get your assignments picked up for you, if possible. Your parents can call the Attendance Office and ask that assignments be made available. If you are unable to get work ahead of time:
a. It is your responsibility to get missed work the day you return.
b. You should get your assignments from the absence folder and notes from a fellow classmate. Appropriate times to get missed work are before school, before or after class or after school. DO NOT interrupt class to get missed work!
c. You will have two days maximum to make up work for absences. If the work isnÕt turned within that time you will receive a zero for the assignment. Additional days may be made for extended absences. (Check with your teacher)
d. If you are absent the day before a test or quiz, plan on taking the test/quiz on the scheduled day. Exceptions will be made ONLY if new material was covered the day of your absence.
e. If you are absent on a test or quiz day, you will be expected to take the test the day you return.
2. DO be in your seat and quiet when the bell rings. If you are not you will be considered TARDY
3. DO come to class prepared. Each day you should bring:
a. Pen/Pencil d. Paper
b. Notebook e. Homework and hall passes
c. Calculator f. Book
4. DO have homework completed and ready to turn in at the beginning of class. Any 5 point homework turned in after that time will not be accepted. Larger assignments will be considered late and points will be deducted.
5. DO keep all homework and hall passes in a safe place. You will be given one free homework and two hall passes per semester. You must have these in class in order to use them. No passes will be honored if they are left in your locker or at home!!
IMPORTANT:
Homework passes are worth only 5 points.
They will not give you full credit on assignments worth more than this amount.
6. DO act appropriately in class.
a. Respect the rights of the speaker by not talking when they are speaking. This includes the teacher as well as other students.
b. Pay attention in class. Do not do assignments from other classes or read or write notes.
c. Participate in class. You can learn from each other as well as the teacher.
d. Follow safety procedures when in the lab. Failure to do so may result in your removal from the class.
7. DO focus on getting to know and working with your classmates. You will do a lot of work in groups. Remember, you sink or swim together.
8. DO keep an organized notebook. It will be useful in studying for quizzes, tests and final exams! The notebook will be used to keep all of the hadouts, lab reports and notes used in this class. It will be graded at the end of each unit and should include the following:
* Table of Contents
* Steps to Success, Safety Agreement, Periodic Table
* Handouts, labs, notes, homework, quizzes and tests (these should be organized in sections)
9. DO keep track of your grade on the given assignment sheet. That way you will always know where you stand. Grades will be on a points earned basis. Each assignment, test, quiz or project will be given a point value. Your grade can be calculated at any time by taking the number of points you have earned divided by the total possible points. The grading scale is as follows:
A = 100 - 90%
B = 89 - 80%
C = 79 - 70%
D = 69 - 60%
F = Below 60%
Grades will be posted every two weeks by your identification number.
10. DO ask questions and come in for extra help if needed. If you are struggling with a topic, want to review for a test or need to make up a lab, see me to arrange a time for you to come in. Help is always available!
