What is the specific
time commitment?
It's a minimum of 20 hours over a 10 week period.
(See Due Dates) However, some agencies may
require more than 20 hours.

Does past community
service count for fulfilling requirement?
No, your community service must occur during the
required semester.

What are my community
service options?
SHS provides an extensive list of agencies from which
to choose. We have created a
long-standing partnership with these
agencies. This is the list of
agencies from which our students must select
to complete their community service
requirement.

What if I can't find an agency that works for me?
You can always choose the Research Paper Option.
However, check with your teacher and/or the
S.H.A.R.E.
Coordinator if you experience a problem. They might
be able to help you find an option that can work for
you.

What if I choose not to perform community service
or write the research paper?
S.H.A.R.E. is a requirement of the class.
The class is a requirement for graduation.

Can I use internship hours or other "service"
hours for S.H.A.R.E.?
No, your hours need to be separate from other
programs.

What will happen if I do not complete all 20
hours in time?
If you know there is going to be a problem,
please let your teacher know as soon as possible to
see if something can be done. Extensions can allow
you to complete the requirement, but your grade could
suffer in terms of due dates.

Can my job count as my community service?
No, it cannot.

What happens if my contract is not received by
the deadline?
You will have chosen the Research Paper Option
to fulfill your S.H.A.R.E. requirement.

Can my community service involve other members of
my family/parents?
Yes. However, a member of your family cannot be your
supervisor.
