Schaumburg High School's Senior of the Month

September | October | November | December | January | February | March | April| May

Senior of the month is an honor that is bestowed on selected seniors who have demonstrated excellence in academics, extracurricular activities/athletics and service.  A selection committee that is comprised of 6 faculty members and the Activity Director meet once each semester to determine the nominees.  The student presents a biography and the nominating teacher composes a letter that exemplifies the students' accomplishments, contributions and attributes.  The letter and the student's photo is posted outside the attendance office in the main hallway showcase, as well as being featured on this page throughout the month that they are selected to represent.

DECEMBER

Jonathon Mejia

Jonathon Mejia

Athlete in action accurately describes December’s Senior-of-the-Month Jonathon Mejia for he has been in action in both sports and activities since he walked into Schaumburg High School four years ago.  Jonathon is one of the preeminent leaders in the history of Schaumburg High due to his unparalleled enthusiasm and self-disciplined work ethic.  He has also been in action in the classroom as he has worked diligently to maintain outstanding grades.
Jonathon works to understand rather than memorize the presented material in class, thereby giving him a foundation from which greater learning inevitably takes place.  He is a leader in the classroom and strives daily to inspire other students to work harder as well.  Jonathon has successfully participated in football, wrestling, and track & field during his tenure at SHS and he is unsurpassed as a leader as he was voted a captain in both football and wrestling.  He attended the MSL leadership summit as a sophomore and was chosen as an all-conference football player and wrestler as a junior.

Jonathon is more than just an outstanding student athlete.  He is also involved in Peer Counseling, the Business professionals of America, and the Principal’s Advisory Board.  His dedication to being a leader is evident as the common theme through each of his activities is to work to make Schaumburg High School a better place to be.  In his own words, “The thing that motivates me to do those things is being able to better myself, my future, and the people around me”.

Jonathon is planning on attending Indiana University or West Point Military Academy.  He is an outstanding individual who has made his mark at Schaumburg High School through his hard work and positive attitude.  He has consistently made himself and his school better and is most deserving to be named December Student-of-the-Month.

  Congratulations to  Jonathon Mejia
