Schaumburg High School's Senior of the Month

September | October | November | December | January | February | March | April| May

Senior of the month is an honor that is bestowed on selected seniors who have demonstrated excellence in academics, extracurricular activities/athletics and service.  A selection committee that is comprised of 6 faculty members and the Activity Director meet once each semester to determine the nominees.  The student presents a biography and the nominating teacher composes a letter that exemplifies the students' accomplishments, contributions and attributes.  The letter and the student's photo is posted outside the attendance office in the main hallway showcase, as well as being featured on this page throughout the month that they are selected to represent.

MARCH

Sarah Kitlinski

Senior of the Month

Schaumburg High School is proud to recognize its March Senior of the Month, Sarah Kitlinski. Each year, Sarah has become more and more involved with extracurricular activities, starting as a freshman when she was a member of the pom squad. As a sophomore, she added becoming vice-president of the Sophomore Class Club. During junior year, she also was a peer counselor and a member of the National Honor Society. It is her during final year at SHS that Sarah has really distinguished herself. She is currently the captain of the pom squad, assistant editor for the school newspaper, a peer counselor, member of the National Honor Society, Senior Club, and the Saxon Super fan Club.

Sarah is also to be given acknowledgement for being the Renaissance person that she is by being recognized by the school for her exemplary academic record and individual awards. She has been an Academic Honors student for all four years; she added the Spanish Honor Society during her sophomore and junior years. During her sophomore year, the State of Illinois credited Sarah with a first-place award in the Red Ribbon Essay Contest. As a junior, she received the Presidential Fitness Award.

In addition to all of these commitments, this student has also found the time to contribute to her community. Sarah is a CCD teacher at her church and a volunteer at Hale Elementary School; at Hale, she has helped to choreograph its variety show.

When asked to reflect on her high school career, Sarah said that one of her greatest highlights and remembrances was when her pom squad was awarded first place in the state competition during her junior year. If she has any advice to offer other SHS students, she suggests that time management has been the key to her success. Sarah also maintains that "not trying hard is a waste of time: if I have the talent to do well in school, then I'm going to make something important out of my life. If I want to succeed in life, I know that I can't think it will come easily." Proud of her Polish heritage, Sarah has only one regret in high school: that she did not celebrate "Fat Tuesday" by bringing "paczkis" for some of her favorite teachers ....

In the fall, Sarah will begin to study her future major of English at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Kudos to Sarah Kitlinski: SHS's Senior of the Month for March.

Congratulations to  Sarah Kitlinski
