Schaumburg High School's Senior of the Month

September | October | November | December | January | February | March | April | May

Senior of the month is an honor that is bestowed on selected seniors who have demonstrated excellence in academics, extracurricular activities/athletics and service.  A selection committee that is comprised of 6 faculty members and the Activity Director meet once each semester to determine the nominees.  The student presents a biography and the nominating teacher composes a letter that exemplifies the students' accomplishments, contributions and attributes.  The letter and the student's photo is posted outside the attendance office in the main hallway showcase, as well as being featured on this page throughout the month that they are selected to represent.

Amanda Rooney

Schaumburg High School is proud to recognize Amanda Rooney as the May Senior of the Month. Mandy has distinguished herself in athletics, activities, academics, and community service throughout her four years at Schaumburg High School. She has excelled academically while still finding considerable time to devote to extra-curricular activities as well as volunteering for numerous service activities. She has been a class act in every arena.

Mandy has a superlative academic record.  She has been exemplary in the classroom at Schaumburg, is one of the select few to be chosen as a National Merit Finalist, and scored a perfect 36 on the act.

Mandy has also been involved in a multitude of activities at Schaumburg.  She played basketball for two years, soccer for three years, volleyball and orchestra for four years, and is a member of the National Honor Society as well as the French Honor Society.  Her various service activities include the Appalachia Service Project where she helped to refurbish homes for the less fortunate.  She has been recognized by several groups for her exceptional service including the prestigious Youth Leadership Award for Community Service and Social Justice from the Archdiocese of Chicago.  When she is not studying or participating in extra-curricular activities at Schaumburg, you may find her at a local soup kitchen or volunteering at other similar service projects.

Mandy is a visible personality at Schaumburg High School.  She is a generous, thoughtful, moral young woman who maintains high personal and academic standards.  Mandy is energetic, honest, hard working and highly motivated.  When asked what motivates her, she responded that getting good grades for her future, staying involved with her community, and the feeling of gratification in helping others is what inspires her to go above and beyond the norm.  She plans on attending the University of Minnesota next year to study biomedical engineering.  Congratulations to Amanda Rooney for being chosen as the May Senior of the Month for she truly is representative of the best that Schaumburg High School has to offer.

Congratulations to  Amanda Rooney
